In order to legally drive a vehicle, you need to have a valid driving license. Otherwise you are subjected to penalties and legal actions. Driving licenses are issued for a certain duration as selected by you at the time of issuance of driving license. It is your responsibility to renew your driving license before it expires. In Saudi Arabia, process for renewal of driving license has become quite easy as you can renew it online by following the below step by step guide for driving license renewal.
Pre-requisites for renewing driving license in Saudi Arabia
There are certain conditions that must be fulfilled and only then you are eligible to get your driving license renewed in Saudi Arabia. These conditions are as explained below:
1. You should fingerprint and photo in MOI system.
2. Payment of the fees should have been done. The amount to be paid depends on validity period that you want for your license.
3. There should be no un-paid traffic violation on you. All violations should have been paid and nothing should be pending.
4. Your existing driving license should be valid for less than 180 days (less than 6 months). You can’t apply for renewal of your driving license if your current license is valid for more than 6 months.
5. You should pass medical test in an approved medical center.
Now we will explain step by step process for renewal of driving license in Saudi Arabia.
Step 1: Pay Driving License Renewal Fees Online
a. Login to your Bank Account.
b. Choose Sadad->Government Services and choose Driving License in the Service Type.
c. Choose the option Renew License on the Application Type.
d. Enter also your Iqama Number.
e. Choose License Type (Private in case of a Private Car).
f. Choose duration (2, 5 or 10 years). License payment is SR. 40 per year.
Step 2: Get Medical Test to Renew Driving License
First, you need to prepare the following before going to Medical Center or Clinic:
a. 1EA Passport size photo
b. Photocopy of Iqama
c. Payment for Medical Test (more or less than SR. 100)
d. Sponsor ID Number (you can find this at your Absher Account)
You need to pass a medical test and get your medical results updated online in order to proceed with renewal of your driving license. In order to get your medical done, you need to visit any of the approved Medical Center or Clinic. Efada provides a list of approved medical centers.
Medical test to renew the driving license involves your Blood Test (for ensuring same blood group as in their records for the old license), your Eye Test and your General Physical Examination. You can use glasses in case you are not able to pass the test with naked eyes.
Once your medical test is done, your Efada Medical Report will be updated online by the clinic and you will be notified through an SMS on your registered mobile number.
Step 3: Apply for Driving License Renewal Online
Once your medical results have been updated in Efada and you have made the payment for renewing your Driving License, you can login to your MOI Absher Account and apply for the License Renewal.
In Absher, go to E-Services–>Traffic–>Renew Driving License and you will land to a page with the conditions for renewal of the License. These conditions are similar to what I have explained under pre-requisites section in this post.
Click Next and at this step you will be able to choose option for renewing your driving license and you can also select number of years for which you want to renew your driving license. Please note that if you choose the number of years more than the number of years that you selected while paying fees, you will not be able to proceed as it will result in insufficient funds.
If everything selected correctly, you will be able to proceed and submit.
Step 4: Collect Your Renewed Driving License
For collecting your renewed driving license, you can visit Moroor office nearby and provide your Iqama and Old License and you can get your New License from the Counter. Depending on the queue in their office, you might have to wait for a while but normally it doesn’t take much longer.
